Jeremiah Kioni dismisses claims of cracks within Azimio

Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has dismissed claims of a split within the Azimio One Kenya coalition party.

Speaking during a press briefing on Friday, September 22, at the Jubilee Party offices, Kioni maintained that Azimio was intact, adding that it has become even stronger.

He made the remarks after allegations emerged that Azimio leaders from the Mount Kenya region had decamped to form a new political outfit, Kamwene Leadership Forum.

According to Jeremiah Kioni, Kamwene was just an umbrella political outfit that brought together Azimio leaders from Central Kenya.

“We are in Azimio to stay and Azimio is very intact and stronger than before. I am hosting Kamwene this week at Jubilee and Narc Kenya will host our next meeting,” said Kioni.

Kioni has clarified that Kamwene was being used as a platform for regional leaders to address their issues before presenting them to the Azimio forums.

“Kamwene means discussing our own issues first before looking at matters touching on members from other regions,” he clarified.

He said that many people were ditching UDA to join the opposition and Kamwene was offering an alternative for the people to belong within the opposition.

“Clearly, people have moved from UDA, and we must give them direction. Kamwene is just one of the things you’ll be hearing. It is meant for everybody in the Mount Kenya region,” Kioni explained.

“In our previous meeting, we had members from the business community who approached us, seeking for our guidance on how to address our issues as a region,” he added.

Kioni’s remarks contradict the opinion of most political analysts who had maintained that Kamwene was being used as a strategy by the Mount Kenya leaders to exit Azimio.

This follows reports of uneasiness in Azimio after politicians from Mount Kenya felt they were allegedly not well represented in House leadership positions and the national dialogue committee.
