The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) on Monday, March 25, 2024 announced closure of a section of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
KAA explained in a statement that the temporary closure of JKIA Terminal 1E was due to a fire incident that occurred in the section.
“Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) wishes to inform the public of a small fire incident that occurred at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport’s Terminal 1E this morning, caused by an electrical fault.
“The situation was quickly contained, with no injuries or casualties resulting from the incident.
“Following this, power to Terminal 1E has been temporarily shut off as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of all within our premises,” KAA noted.
Consequently, all flight arrival operations were redirected to Terminal 1A until further notice to avoid any inconvenience.
KAA further noted that it is dedicated to ensure safety and security of all passengers, staff, and stakeholders at the airports.
At the same time, the government agency explained that it has taken all necessary steps to minimize disruptions and return to normal operations as swiftly as possible.
The terminal closure happened at a time when most parts of Nairobi were flooded due to heavy rains that started on Sunday night.
