Heavy rainfall experienced in Nairobi on Saturday, April 27 evening has led to flooding at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport’s Tower Avenue Underpass.
Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) says that its security teams and the police have cordoned off the affected area to ensure safety of all airport users and personnel.
“Normal flights operations at the airport are still ongoing, and access to all terminals remains available,” KAA says.
However, all vehicles have been advised to use the main entrance to access and exit JKIA until further notice.
“We sincerely appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we diligently manage this situation,” KAA adds.
KQ diverts flights
The Kenya Airways (KQ) has also announced that it has diverted a number of flights due to heavy rains and poor visibility in Nairobi.
In a statement, the national carrier said the diversion of flights may result to extended delays for some of departures out of Nairobi.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused to our customers,” KQ says.
