Jonte: Hardcore criminal who defied police orders shot dead

Police in Soweto, Njiru Sub-County, Nairobi County on Tuesday, August 22 morning gunned down a suspected notorious criminal who had terrorised residents in the area for long.

A report filed at Soweto Police Station says that acting on an intelligence, a joint operation consisting of police officers and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) was launched.

“The house of the suspect was identified at flat B4-124 second floor HSE NO B-7 and on being challenged to surrender, he defied the order and opened fire injuring one police officer on his left thigh,” the police report reads in part.

As a result of the ensuing shootout, the suspect – John Kerori Kamau alias Jonte was fatally injured.

Police recovered a CZ pistol with 12 rounds of ammunition from the scene. They also recovered a brown back pack with assorted phones suspected to be proceeds of his criminal activities.

The casualty is suspected to have been engaged in a spate of violent robberies within Nairobi City and its environs including shooting incident fortnight ago where an officer was fatally injured in Mihang’o.

The injured officer was rushed to Komarock Modern Hospital. He is currently in stable condition.

The body was taken to City Mortuary pending autopsy.
