Journalist Salim Swaleh appeals to Mudavadi in emotional video

HUMAN INTEREST

Salim Swaleh, the ex-Director of the Press Service at the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary (OPCS) and former NTV news anchor, broke down in a viral video on Sunday August 25, 2024.

The ex-NTV news anchor was seen pleading for help amid severe personal and financial troubles.

What made Salim Swaleh to plead

In the video, Swaleh described how his life has drastically changed since a scandal surfaced in June 2024, making it difficult for him to even go for a walk.

Swaleh claimed that since the scandal emerged, he has faced increasing extortion from lawyers and police officers, while his legal case progresses slowly.

In his heartfelt appeal, he expressed frustration at his inability to contact Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi despite numerous attempts.

How Swaleh asked for forgiveness from Mudavadi

He addressed Mudavadi directly in the video, acknowledging his past mistakes and expressing deep remorse.

“I have been unable to walk out because of the kind of publicity and the things people said about me just threw me into uncharted territory,” he said.

What led to his arrest

Swaleh was arrested in June along with other senior officials from the Ministry over allegations related to a Ksh5.8 million scandal.

They were accused of renting out their offices for illegal activities and deceiving victims by switching nametags on doors.

Since his arrest, Swaleh’s salary has been stopped, causing financial difficulties and affecting his ability to pay bills and loans.

In his plea, Swaleh asked for his case to be expedited so he can move on with his life.

He described the severe impact of the negative publicity on his chances of finding new employment. “I lost everything in a blink of an eye, but most of all, the court process has been draining.

Extortion is rampant, and it’s been nearly nine months with mounting bills and halted salary,” he said through tears.

Attempts to reach out to Swaleh for further details or comments have been unsuccessful, as he has not responded to inquiries from the press.
