Joseph Irungu, alias Jowie, sent out a heartfelt message to the family of late businesswoman Monica Kimani.
Justice Grace Nzioka of Milimani High Court read his submission while delivering sentencing on Wednesday, Marc 13.
According to the submission, Jowie himself was shocked at the ‘madness’ of the perpetrator in Monica Kimani’s murder which occurred in 2018.
Postmortem analysis revealed that the businesswoman was slit from ear to ear in what appeared to be the work of a person with military training.
That moments before she had her throat slit, her hand and legs were tied up with strands in a bathtub. In the heinous murder which reportedly took place within 10 minutes, the lights and candles in the bathroom were left on.
Today (Wednesday) while reading Jowie’s statement, Justice Nzioka noted that particular submissions from the accused caught her attention.
“He expresses his sadness that such a tragic and callous loss of life on extreme circumstances bordering absolute that is beyond understanding even to him as he stands there convicted,” the judge read in part.
Jowie acknowledged that no amount of monetary compensation to the family would revive her, nor offer solace to her family.
“It is my prayer that the deceased’s family will find peace and Monica Kimani will rest in eternal peace…
“I am aware that nothing at this stage will relieve the pain of the deceased’s family so the less I say the better,” read his submission.
The accused maintained innocence and expressed disappointment with the court for linking him to the murder of Monica Kimani.
He was today (Wednesday) handed a death sentence for the brutal murder of Monica Kimani in her Lamuria Gardens apartment in Nairobi on the night of September 19, 2018.
In the February 9 verdict, Justice Grace Nzioka said her ruling was based on 13 findings which placed Jowie Irungu at the scene of murder.
