Joy as destitute family that has braved the cold for four years in Alego Usonga gets shelter

A family that has been staying in a dilapidated house for the last four years in Nyalgunga Sub-Location in Alego/Usonga, Siaya County, got a reprieve after they were built a new house courtesy of Pius Omudho Foundation.

Lawrence Juma, his wife Beatrice Adhiambo and their seven children had been braving the cold in a dilapidated house since the year 2020 but have gotten a sigh of relief after the foundation built them a three-roomed semi-permanent house.

While expressing joy and gratitude for the support, the 42-year-old Juma who lives with disability stated that the situation has not been easy with them especially during the rainy season, stating therefore that the new house will help them a great deal.

His wife Adhiambo who was equally full of joy says that they have suffered and passed through a lot of public ridicule, noting therefore that the support will save them from persistent mockery by those who looked down upon them.

Neighbours led by Alex Oduol and Jane Adhiambo confirmed that in deed the destitute family was suffering, adding that the move to build them that new house will also help to improve the lives of their seven children who had been braving the cold.

John Ondiek, a community leader who linked up the family with the well-wisher, also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Pius Omudho Foundation for coming to their aid and pleaded with them to consider supporting even more people, noting that the region has so many families that live very desperate lives.

On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation Mr. Pius Omudho stated that his organization which is non-political is out and willing to work with everybody across Siaya County to improve the residents’ socio-economic standards.

He stated therefore that they shall continue mapping out to see more families that they can still support in terms of shelter, food and even clothing noting that their core mandate is to improve livelihoods.
