Juja MP Koimburi charged with 6 counts of forging academic certificates

Juja Member of Parliament (MP) George Koimburi was on Wednesday, February 19 charged with different counts, among them forging academic certificates, following his arrest yesterday.

Appearing before Kiambu Law Courts, the MP was charged with three charges related to forging academic certificates and three more for uttering false documents.

According to his charge sheet, Koimburi is accused of forging a Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) certificate between November and December 1994, in order to secure a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

In the second count, the legislator is alleged to have forged a certificate of participation in the East African Universities Accession Project from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Technology (JKUAT) between September 2011 and April 2012. Within this same period, the third count claims that Koimburi secured a forged certificate from the School of Human Resource Development from JKUAT.

In the fourth count, the charge sheets says, Koimburi is accused of “knowingly and fraudulently forging a KCSE certificate from KNEC at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission” on March 8, 2021.

In the fifth count, at the same EACC offices, Koimburi is said to have presented the aforementioned forged certificate of participation in the East African Universities Accession Project from JKUAT.

In the last count, the MP is said to have presented the aforementioned forged certificate from the School of Human Resource Development from JKUAT to EACC.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges before Hon. Mwanamkuu Mwakwambirwa.

The accused was initially charged with forging academic certificates on 26th April 2021 and released on a bond of KSh100,000. Court issued a warrant of arrest on 16th September 2021 after the MP failed to attend to court summons and forfeited his cash bail.

He was released on a KSh200,000 cash bail.
