Junet Mohammed risks being fired from ODM leadership

Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohammed risks being stripped of leadership positions in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party following his absence from party activities.

Junet is the National Assembly Minority Whip, Director of Campaigns and Parliamentary Affairs and Azimio Secretary General.

In a meeting chaired by ODM party leader Raila Odinga, his (Junet) absence was discussed as a cause for concern.

The party’s National Elections Board (NEB) which reports to Junet was also disbanded during the meeting.

In addition to Raila, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, deputy party leader Wycliffe Oparanya, chairman John Mbadi and National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi were also in attendance.

A letter addressed to Junet by SG Sifuna has asked him to explain his absence within the next seven days.

“Your actions have had, and continue to have, a detrimental impact on the party by depriving it of the expected contributions from your office towards the realisation of the party’s goals and objectives,” read the letter in part.

“By resolution of the committee, you are required to provide a comprehensive explanation for this state of affairs within the next seven days.”

Junet told a local newspaper that despite being aware of the letter, he is yet to be served.

“I blame some individuals within the party for trying to settle political scores,” he told Sunday Nation.

Junet was accused by some members of ODM of sabotaging Mr Raila’s election by failing to place agents at some polling stations.
