The national government has plans to employ Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers on permanent and pensionable terms.
The plans were revealed by chairperson of the budget committee in the National Assembly Ndindi Nyoro, who said funds have been allocated in the budget policy to enable Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to employ the teacher interns on a permanent basis.
Nyoro, who was speaking during an event in his Kiharu constituency on March 12, 2024, said an extra Ksh26.3 billion has been allocated for TSC to facilitate the confirmation of 26,000 interns.
The MP further noted that the allocation will allow TSC to employ 20,000 new teachers and bolster the education sector.
At the same time, the Kiharu MP confirmed that the government is working on a Ksh4.188 trillion budget, an increase from the Ksh3.6 trillion budget passed by the national assembly last year.
He noted that Ksh220 billion will be allocated towards roads out of which Ksh70 billion will be sourced from government revenue while some will come from foreign development and from fuel levy.
With fuel leading the country’s imports, Nyoro said edible oils come second, consuming over Ksh150 billion annually.
To stem this, the MP said the government has plans to start implementing import substitution for edible oils by subsidizing sunflower and other crops that produce edible oil.
Further, Nyoro revealed that the government plans to collect about Ksh64 billion from the housing levy that will go towards creation of jobs directly and indirectly.
