The Kenya U17 Women’s training camp in Spain, initially set for September 10, 2024, has been rescheduled to begin on September 19, 2024.
This postponement allows the Junior Starlets additional time to fine-tune their local preparations as they gear up for their historic debut at the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, taking place in the Dominican Republic.
The Junior Starlets are currently in their seventh day of intensive training as they build momentum towards their World Cup campaign.
Team captain Elizabeth Ochaka expressed the profound significance of their qualification, highlighting the impact it has on the players and the future of Kenyan football.
“Qualifying for the World Cup is a huge achievement, especially being the first Kenyan team to do it in the world of football. We don’t take this chance for granted. Our goal is to go there and compete, not just participate,” said Ochaka.
Ochaka also emphasized the potential opportunities that playing on the world stage could unlock for her and her teammates.
“Playing at the World Cup will bring us many opportunities, like getting scouted to play for international teams, which has always been a dream for many of us,” she added.
The 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup will run from October 16 to November 3, 2024.
The Junior Starlets are set to kick off their group stage matches on October 18 against England, followed by a game against Korea DPR on October 20.
They will conclude their group stage campaign against Mexico on October 24, 2024.
