Junior Starlets make impact in KSSSA national school games

A contingent of the Kenya U17 Girls’ team have had an opportunity to showcase their talents at the ongoing Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national games.

After a remarkable performance in the U17 World Cup qualifiers, where they secured their place in the main event in the Dominican Republic, the KSSSA national games have brought together seven Junior Starlets, each representing their school in Kisii that runs from August 4-9, 2024.

Among these players are Lorna Faith, Diana Anyango, and Halima Imbachi from Butere Girls, Christine Adhiambo, Jenevive Mithel and Sheryl Amuok from Nyakach Girls, and Quinter Adhiambo from St. Alfred Alara.

These young players have already proven their mettle on the international stage and are now poised to elevate the level of competition at the national games.

Nyakach Girls and Butere Girls were both drawn into Group B, setting the stage for a thrilling encounter. In their second group match, Nyakach Girls emerged victorious with a narrow 1-0 win over Butere Girls. Despite this loss, Butere Girls demonstrated resilience and secured their spot in the semi-finals as runners-up by winning their other two matches, alongside group winners Nyakach Girls.

Meanwhile, Quinter Adhiambo’s team, St. Alfred Alara, faced tough competition and were unfortunately eliminated in the group stages.

As the semi-finals approach on August 7, 2024, Nyakach Girls are set to face St. Joseph, while Butere Girls will take on Kombani.

The participation of these Junior Starlets in the KSSSA national games is a testament to their dedication and hard work. These young footballers have not only represented their schools with distinction but have also brought a touch of international experience and flair to the competition.

The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2024 will be held in the Dominican Republic from October 16 to November 3, 2024.
