The Junior Starlets, Kenya’s U17 women’s national football team, are preparing for a high-stakes World Cup qualifier against Uganda in March 2025. This match marks their first major competitive fixture since their historic debut at the U17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic.

Kenya, having received a bye in the opening round of the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers, will now face Uganda in a two-legged showdown ,First Leg: Scheduled between March 7 and 9, 2025 Second Leg: Slated for March 14 to 16, 2025.
Both teams are expected to deliver thrilling performances as they vie for a place on the global stage.
Coach’s Perspective and Team Preparations
Head Coach Mildred Cheche expressed confidence in the team’s readiness for the qualifiers:
“Our focus is firmly set on the upcoming qualifiers, and we are fully committed to achieving our goal of qualifying for the World Cup.”
Cheche emphasized the importance of the recently concluded Girls Integrated Football Tournament (GIFT) held in Tanzania in building team cohesion and sharpening players’ skills.
“The GIFT tournament provided an excellent platform for us. We had two Kenyan teams participating, with one securing third place and the other finishing fifth. It was an invaluable opportunity to assess our players in a competitive setting and refine their skills ahead of the qualifiers.”
