Jurgen Klopp returns to football as Red Bull’s head of Soccer in January 2025

Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, the 57-year-old German, is set to make a return to football in January 2025 after signing a long-term contract with Red Bull. Klopp, who left Liverpool after leading them to the 2020/21 EPL title, will be taking up a new role that marks the end of his year-long break from football after a remarkable reign at Anfield.

In his new position as Head of Soccer at Red Bull, Klopp will work closely with all clubs under the Red Bull umbrella, including RB Leipzig, RB Salzburg, and New York Red Bulls. His responsibilities will include advising on coaching strategies, playing philosophy, player development, transfers, and appointing coaches.

According to The Athletic, Klopp was personally sought after by Oliver Mintzlaff, CEO of Corporate Projects and New Investments at Red Bull GmbH, who expressed his enthusiasm for Klopp’s arrival:

“We are very proud of this outstanding and certainly the strongest signing in Red Bull’s soccer history. Jurgen Klopp is one of the greatest and most influential figures in world soccer, with extraordinary skills and charisma.”

Mintzlaff added:

“In his role as Head of Soccer, Klopp will be a game changer for our involvement in international soccer and its continued development. We expect valuable and decisive contributions in key areas to make our clubs better, both collectively and individually.”

Clause for the German National Team Role

There are reports suggesting that Klopp, who is rumored to be interested in managing the Germany national team, has included an exit clause in his contract. This clause would allow him to leave his role at Red Bull should he receive an offer to take over the national team.

Unlike many football giants who purchase existing clubs, Red Bull founded RB Leipzig in 2009. In just 15 years, the club has risen to become one of the top contenders in the Bundesliga, regularly competing against Germany’s most elite teams.

Red Bull has expanded its global sports footprint significantly, not only in football but also in Formula One, where they have achieved tremendous success.
