President William Ruto on Thursday, December 19 made changes to his Cabinet and senior ranks of the Executive.
The latest Cabinet reshuffle has seen some political bigwigs make a comeback with presidential appointments.
Mutahi Kagwe, the former Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) who etched his name in Kenya’s history by steering the country out of the COVID-19 pandemic, is back.
President Ruto has nominated Kagwe to the position of Agriculture and Livestock Development CS, to replace Mithika Linturi, one of the CSs who were sacked at the height of Gen Z anti-government protests.
Former Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui is also back, with President Ruto nominating a man who arguably propelled Nakuru to City Status as the Investments, Trade and Industry CS.
President Ruto also nominated former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo as the CS for Information, Communications and Digital Economy.
President Ruto has also made some re-assignment to his Cabinet. Salim Mvurya has been moved from the Investments, Trade and Industry docket to the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports.
Kipchumba Murkomen has also been re-assigned, moving from the Sports docket to the CS for Interior and National Administration.
The head of state has also made some new appointments in the positions of ambassadors and high commissioners, with former Sports CS Ababu Namwamba also making a comeback. Dorothy Angote has been nominated as Kenya’s High Commissioner in Zimbabwe.
Andrew Karanja, who served as Agriculture CS in Ruto’s administration, has been nominated as Kenya’s Ambassador to Brazil.
Meanwhile, former Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi has been nominated as the Chairperson, Board of Directors, Kenya Revenue Authority.
President Ruto also nominated Anthony Mwaura as the chairperson, Board of Directors, Kenya Rural Roads Authority.
Kembi Gitura, the first senator of Murang’a County, has also made a comeback, nominated as the chairperson, Board of Directors, Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital.
President Ruto has since submitted the nominations of Cabinet Secretaries, High Commissioners, Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives to the National Assembly for consideration and approval by Parliament, as the Constitution dictates.
Ababu has been nominated to the position of Permanent Representative of Kenya to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)/United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON).
Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u has been re-assigned from ICT Ministry to be Kenya’s High Commissioner in Ghana.
