Kabras set to take on KCB as Kenya Cup action enters final round

The Kenya Cup enters its final weekend with everything on the line. League leaders KCB Rugby and second-placed Kabras Sugar will battle for the top spot in Kakamega, while teams at the bottom fight to avoid relegation in matchday eleven action, with kickoff for all matches set for 4:00 PM across different venues countrywide.

Kabras Sugar welcomes KCB Rugby at the ASK Kakamega Showground in what is the highlight of the weekend, featuring unbeaten sides battling for the number-one seed. KCB sits at the top with 50 points, while Kabras follows closely with 48. Kabras, aiming for their sixth consecutive top finish, must win to leapfrog their rivals. History favors them, having beaten KCB in the final matchday in two of the past seasons.

South Coast Pirates will face off against Menengai Oilers at the Seacrest Grounds in Diani. The South Coast Pirates are in a must-win situation as they fight to stay in the top flight. Currently last with 9 points, they need a bonus-point victory over third-placed Menengai Oilers (42 points) to stand a chance of avoiding relegation. A regular win could still be enough, but they would have to rely on Mwamba, Kisumu, and Strathmore failing to pick up points.

At the Mamboleo Stadium in Kisumu, Kisumu RFC will face Nondescript RFC. Kisumu RFC, with 13 points, is another team facing relegation danger. A win against fourth-placed Nondescript RFC, who have 34 points, would boost their survival chances, but they will need results elsewhere to go their way. Nondescript has already secured a playoff spot but will want a win to solidify their position.

Strathmore Leos will host Kenya Harlequin, with Quins on 32 points on the verge of playoff qualification and needing just one point to confirm their spot. Strathmore Leos, who have amassed 13 points so far, are in the relegation mix and must pull off an upset to avoid the drop. A win for Strathmore could see them survive, depending on other results.

Mwamba RFC will face campus side Blak Blad. Mwamba RFC, with 12 points, is in a must-win situation against KU Blak Blad, who have 26 points. Blad is still in contention for a playoff spot and needs a victory to confirm their place in the top six. A loss could allow Impala RFC to overtake them. Mwamba, sitting just one point above last place, will be desperate for victory to avoid relegation.

Impala RFC will lock horns with Nakuru RFC at the Impala Grounds. Impala RFC, who have 15 points in seventh position, still have a mathematical chance of sneaking into the playoffs if they secure a bonus-point win and KU Blak Blad loses. Nakuru RFC (14 points) is already out of the playoff race but will want to end the season on a high.

After this weekend, the playoffs are scheduled for March 15, 2025, followed by the semifinals on March 22 and the final on April 5 to determine 2024/2025 Kenya Cup champion.
