Kajiado: Two men succumb after consuming illicit liquor

Police in Isinya, Kajiado County, are investigating an incident in which two people died after consuming adulterated liquor.

41-year-old Dominic Muna passed away on Friday, February 9, 2024, while another 52-year-old man died on Sunday February 11, 2024, in Kitengela town.

Dominic Muna died in Panai area hours after consuming the tainted liquor.

Muna’s family claimed that before his death, he complained of blurred vision and stomach discomfort.

Muna died while undergoing treatment.

The family also mentioned that before his demise, Muna had lost his eyesight and experienced rapid organ failure.

“A close relative stated that the doctor’s report, which we currently wish to keep confidential, indicated that Muna died as a result of consuming adulterated liquor.”

In another incident, a 52-year-old man died after consuming illicit liquor.

The man died while receiving treatment in hospital in Kajiado County.

The doctor confirmed that his demise was due to the consumption of the toxic brew and had lost his eyesight.

“All signs point to ethanol poisoning. The patient was blind upon arrival and experienced organ failure leading to his death,” reported the doctor.

According to Isinya Sub County Police Commander Patrick Manyasi, the police are investigating the two incidents in which the individuals succumbed to similar symptoms.

Manyasi further stated that the middle-aged man died after inhaling toilet-cleaning detergent.

“We interrogated one of the bar attendants who the deceased was last spotted with, who claimed the man used the poisonous detergent,’’ Manyasi added.

Locals blamed the police for not addressing the issue on time.
