Kakamega family asks government to hand over daughter’s body found in Kware

A Kakamega family was robbed off their daughter barely three months after relocating to Nairobi city. The father, Isaac Shatuma received a distressing call from the authorities who obtained her family details from her finger prints.

Mr Shatuma was able to identify his second born out of six children at the first glance of her body. “When we entered the mortuary, the only visible part was the upper body, and the head was still intact. It is the head that made me identify her because I could see the teeth and her appearance, mostly from the forehead,”

“It was clear from the face that it was her,” said the Butali Sugar employee. According to the police, the body was found in July 13 at the Kware Dumpsite in Embakasi.

Bodies recovered at the Kware dumpsite shocked the nation as they were all stuffed in sacks. Brenda Mutuka Shatuma’s body was found on the second day of recovering these bodies.

Mr Shatuma and his wife recorded a statement with the The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) shortly after identifying their child’s body.

Their daughter’s body is yet to be handed over to them. According to the family, the government has not communicated as to whether this will happen and when it will happen.

The deceased was born and raised in Fubuye Village in Kakamega County until her relocation three months before her demise.

The villagers are mourning her saying she was a young child taken from them in her prime. The circumstances surrounding her death are still unclear.

Kware murder suspect

DCI Director Mohamed Amin confirmed on Monday that Collins Jumaisi confessed to killing 42 women between 2022 and July 11, 2024 and dumping their bodies in Kware Dumpsite.

His first victim was his wife, whom he strangled, dismembered, and dumped after a disagreement over business failures.

Jumaisi was arrested in Kayole after a joint operation by the DCI and National Police Service (NPS). The search led to the recovery of various items, including 24 Airtel SIM card holders, eight smartphones, a laptop, a hard drive, two flash drives, a machete, 12 nylon sacks, industrial rubber gloves, ID cards, a pink handbag, female undergarments, cannabis, cello tapes, a reflector jacket, title deeds, notebooks, and other documents.

He however escaped police custody in 20th August and is yet to be apprehended.
