Kakamega: Grandmother arrested for neglecting minors

Police on Saturday 16th arrested a grandmother in Kakamega County for allegedly mistreating her two grandchildren.

The children, aged eight and three, were discovered by a neighbor in Springland, Likuyani area, in Kakamega County.

According to Moses Shiundu, the assistant chief of Mawe Tatu, they arrested the elderly woman after neighbors alerted the authorities.

Shiundu further stated that the children had allegedly been confined in a house for several months, leading to their deteriorating health.

“We went to that house and found the children weak and very dirty,’ said Shiundu

He noted that the children’s mother works in Nairobi and had entrusted their care to their grandmother. Police have indicated their intention to pursue child abuse charges against the elderly woman once investigations are concluded.

The woman is currently detained at Nagili police station in Likuyani Sub-County.
