A man is being held at Shianda Police Station, Kakamega County, after reportedly killing his 41-year-old brother following a land-related conflict.
Mumias East Police Commander Dorris Chemoss confirmed that the incident occurred in Isongo village. The deceased, identified as William Anjisu Waswa, had an ongoing dispute with his brother, Charles Waswa, over land ownership.
Witnesses report that William (the deceased) attempted to attack Charles with a machete during an argument. However, Charles managed to overpower him. As William called for help, neighbours arrived at the scene, but the situation had already escalated.
Surprisingly, the victim’s family is advocating for Charles’ release, arguing that William had a long history of violence and was a known troublemaker in the community.
They claim he had even attacked his own son in the past, making self-defense a reasonable explanation for his death.
Police have advised families and communities to seek peaceful means of resolving disputes, warning that violence often leads to tragic and irreversible consequences.
