Celebrated media personality Kalekye Mumo recently opened up about a relationship that wasn’t what it seemed. In her words, it “opened her eyes” to the real love she needed.
Kalekye shared her story on The Dating Stories, revealing the ups and downs of dating a Luo man from Bondo.
At first, he seemed like “the one”, a manager, independent, and, best of all, uninterested in her money or fame. For Kalekye, who was used to attracting much younger men, a guy just two years younger felt refreshing. But red flags? She admits she missed them.
“When you’re getting to know someone, remember that red flags are red, not pink,” she joked. At first, his communication style bothered her, but she brushed it off.
Then came the first big disappointment. He was supposed to meet her friends but pulled a no-show, claiming he was fine when she called his friend in a panic.
Disappointed, Kalekye pulled back, expecting him to reach out with an explanation. Instead, months passed with silence.
Out of the blue, he reappeared with tragic news; his mother had passed away. Despite the unresolved issues, Kalekye went to his side.
She took charge of the funeral arrangements, organizing everything from the venue to the flowers. His family and friends were so impressed they even called her “wife material.“
But her efforts weren’t enough to keep him close. After the funeral, he dropped her off in Nairobi, thanked her, and disappeared. Calls went unanswered, and she was left wondering what went wrong.
Reflecting on the heartbreak, Kalekye said it took her a long time to understand the lesson behind the pain. In 2017, she finally found peace by giving her life to Christ. “When I surrendered, it was like a release,” she said, finding comfort in faith.
Her dating experiences since have taught her one thing: Trust God’s plan over appearances. She’s been misled by men claiming to be religious just to get close.
But these experiences strengthened her, reminding her of the love that matters most, her faith.
