Wiper Democratic Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has hinted at vying for presidency in the 2027 general elections.
Musyoka was speaking during an interview on TV47 with political anchor Lizah Mutuku.
He was pressed to clarify whether he would go for the top most political seat in the country, to which he said would happen but on certain grounds.
“Before you get to the ballot, you must make sure there is a credible IEBC, because there is no point of saying you’ll be in the ballot only to end up completely messed up while in fact you have the numbers…” the former Vice President noted.
IEBC is at fault- Kalonzo Musyoka
Musyoka faulted the electoral commission for their ‘losses’ in the past three presidential elections.
“This is what has happened in the last three subsequent elections- 2022, 2017 and 2013,” the Azimio co-principal added.
He maintained that he would only declare his stand once proper reforms on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) were effected.
“Decisions will be followed by announcements but before that we will have consultations. I lead a party which believes in consultations. This is why Kenyans will agree it’s a highly disciplined political movement,” Kalonzo Musyoka added.
‘Mapema Ndio Best’
In a rejoinder, the Azimio co-principal expressed amusement in Kenyans who were already referring to him as the “6th” to mean the next president.
“Kenyans are already ahead of the leaders. You hear some of them say ‘the 6th’, others saying ‘Mapema ndio best’… maybe some of them have already seen a revelation so we’ll follow that” he added.
The former Vice President expressed confidence in the electorate stating they would no longer be bribed by corrupt politicians in the future elections to vote for them.
“Kenyans know that it will never be useful anymore to come armed with billions of shillings to bribe people and expect them to vote for you,” Kalonzo asserted.
