Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has opened up about her journey into motherhood, sharing details regarding the birth of her 10-year-old daughter, Teana.
In an interview with Billy Miya and Mbaruk Mwalimu during the ‘Hii Si ya Kusahau’ segment, Nyamu revealed that Teana was born prematurely.
Nyamu disclosed that the joy she felt upon becoming a mother for the first time far eclipsed any material wealth.
“Kama wanawake, kuna vitu ambavyo vinatufurahisha. Kwa wengine, ni kama vile ‘material things’. Lakini kwangu, kile kitu ambacho sitakisahau ni wakati nilimpata mtoto wangu wa kwanza. Yaani, kuitwa mama,” said Nyamu.
She indicated that the pregnancy was thrilling, even though her water broke unexpectedly at 6am before her due date.
The senator recounted that she and her then-partner, DJ Saint Kevin, were instructed by their doctor to seek medical assistance immediately.
“Water broke at 6am, nikampigia daktari akaniambia nifike hospitalini mara moja. Hiyo 6am tukaenda na baba mtoto [DJ Saint Kevin] pale hospitalini. Pale kulikuwa na changomoto. “Kanungo” ilikuwa hatari. Pale nika regret nikisema siku nyingine [sifanyi tena], narudi bikra mimi. Kidogo kidogo, mtoto akazaliwa, nikasahau hayo yote,” narrated the senator.
Although the experience of childbirth cannot be entirely anticipated, Nyamu noted that she had made significant preparations in advance.
“Kila kitu, ikiwemo jina, tulikuwa tushachagua. Ukiwa mama mara ya kwanza inakuwa very exciting. Shopping unaanza kufanya ukiwa na mimba ata ya miezi sita. Majina unachagua, and discuss with the family – yaani uko very excited. Kila kitu nilikuwa nimetayarisha,” she added.
During Teana’s birthday in August 2024, the youthful politician expressed affection for her daughter through a heartfelt birthday message.
In her post, Nyamu reflected on the joy she derives from nurturing Teana, emphasizing that her love for the 10-year old knows no bounds.
“Double digits it is! 10 years of nurturing, fun, laughter, friendship, family, bond, adventure, learning and loving. Thank you God for your faithfulness. Your word has proven true in this journey. Thank you for 10. Looking forward to many more. Happy birthday my baby Teana,” she stated.
In May, the mother of three expressed her inability to connect with individuals who claim motherhood is challenging.
She explained that she views motherhood as a process of self-education.
“I can’t tell you how I became a mom of 3. I’d thought about being a mom of 2 but never of 3. But I am glad I did! Motherhood is beautiful. I don’t relate when they say it’s hard. I think I learnt early that very little about motherhood has to do with me. A lot of it has to do with God,” wrote Nyamu.
Karen Nyamu has two additional children, Samuel Muchoki Jr and Taraya Wairimu, with renowned Mugithi sensation Samuel Muchoki, popularly known as Samidoh.
