Narc Kenya Party leader Martha Karua now says the government should resettle Kenyan families displaced by floods in the already constructed affordable houses at no costs.
Speaking on Tuesday, May 15 when he visited the Mathare Social Justice Centre, Karua said that it was the responsibility of the government to cater for the families affected by floods across the country.
“The affordable housing has been built using Kenyans money on Kenyan land, those houses therefore should be given to the flood victims for free,” she said. “The government should have a plan and release funds to build temporary shelters for the victims.”
She also reiterated that the government should utilise the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel to help relocate those families that had settled on riparian land, as well as assist in the rescue efforts for those affected by floods.
On matters schools reopening, Karua — who is also an Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Coalition principal — expressed concerns over the school-going children whose families have been displaced by floods. She also called upon school heads to be empathetic not to sent students with fee balances home.
