Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Narc Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua have revealed plans to form a strong political alliance to contest for the presidency in the 2027 elections.

This emerged on Saturday January 25, 2025 when Gachagua visited Karua at her home in Gichugu Constituency, Kirinyaga County.

During the meeting, the two vowed to recruit more political allies to liberate the country.

Gachagua was accompanied by his spouse, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, and political allies for the Gichugu trip, where the two agreed to bury the hatchet.

“Earlier today I paid a courtesy call on my sister Senior Counsel Martha Karua, the Party Leader of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP) Party at her home in Kimunye Village, Gichugu Constituency in Kirinyaga County.

“Martha’s dedication to public service and her tireless fight for justice has earned my respect and that of millions of Kenyans across the country; as well as people all over the world. This is despite the fact that we often find ourselves on opposite ends of the political spectrum.

“However I have come to believe that as much as the tumultuous world of political rivalry might frequently overshadow the possibility of collaboration, the lessons we continue to learn along the way often times also provide opportunities for erstwhile political rivals to work together and leverage diverse perspectives and experiences, to effect meaningful change. 

“It is within this background that I genuinely look forward to working together with my sister SC Martha Karua to forge a formidable team that will work together and with others, for the betterment of our country,” read part of Gachagua’s statement posted on X.

Karua responded to Gachagua’s statement, noting that it was an honour to host the former DP at her home. 

“It was my honor and pleasure to host you dear brother Rigathi Gachagua, Pastor Dorcas and your entire delegation. 

“Receive my family’s and my appreciation for the visit. Leadership is about service, about putting the people first   in all the steps we make. 

“I salute your courage and resilience in the face of adversity, qualities that we need as we fulfill our joint commitment to rally together leaders from across the nation, to address the many challenges facing the people of Kenya. I look forward to working with you and wish you well in all your endeavors,” Karua posted on X. 

After his impeachment, Gachagua has been holding a series of meetings with elected leaders from different counties at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County.

According to the former DP, these meetings are consultative, aimed at redesigning his political future.
