Four police officers are among six suspects who were on Wednesday, June 5 afternoon arrested in connection to the theft of over KSh400,000 from a locked car in Mihango, Nairobi County.
DCI detectives handling the case received intelligence that two main suspects who orchestrated the theft resided in Utawala area.
The case entailed stealing from a locked moto vehicle which was reported the previous day (Tuesday, June 4).
Upon arriving at the location, the detectives found out that the suspects had already been arrested by unknown people at around 9 am. Information gathered was that the said persons who made the arrests were driving in a white Subaru car.
“Further intelligence led the officers to Kasarani police station public parking yard where the said motor vehicle registration number GKB 019J was found parked with six occupants at about1900hrs in the evening,” a police Occurrence Book (OB) number 5/06/06/2024 filed at Kayole Police Station today morning (around 4:14 am) says.
A brief interrogation and the detectives established that four of the six individuals were police officers while two were civilians.
Three were police officers from DCI Kasarani namely; Sergeant Antony Ndegwa Anwal, Corporal Daniel Lekakeny Sunkuli, and Constable Simon Macharia Maina. One of the officers arrested is from Ruai Police Station namely Constable Antony Mwenda. The other two civilians were Lukas Magwaga and Young Wakise.
“Officers established that the two civilians were the main suspects involved in the theft as captured in the CCTV footage. The DCIO Kasarani was summoned, confirmed if the officers were not on official duty. In presence of Kasarani Ocpd,d/ocpd and dcio, a search was conducted and a total of ksh.350,000/= was recovered inside the car and Kshs.123,000/= was recovered from the pockets of police officers,” the police report adds.
Also found in the same parking yard were two motor vehicles (reg. KCN 650 U and KDK 052F). It was established that one of the cars belonged to Constable Mwenda while the other beloged to Magwiga.
Detectives now say they suspect that cash recovered was part of the stolen money. The same was kept as exhibits while motor vehicles detained at Kayole Police Station.
The four officers and the two civilians have been placed in custody to assist with investigations.
