Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza has disclosed her plans to lead the county for 10 years.
In a statement posted on her Facebook page on Thursday August 22, 2024, governor Mwangaza confidently declared that she would lead the county for a full ten years without interruption.
How Kawira expressed her determination
“Kabati kabati kaende kaende #MbeuyaNgai #KumiBilaBreak So help me God,” she posted on her official Facebook page.
This announcement came shortly after the High Court intervened to stop her impeachment, which the Senate had upheld just the night before.
Justice Bahati Mwamuye issued an order preventing Senate Speaker Amason Kingi from declaring the Meru governorship vacant in the Kenya Gazette Notice.
Following the court’s ruling, the Meru Governor shared her gratitude on social media, posting “Merciful God.”
This wasn’t the first time Governor Mwangaza used social media to celebrate a victory in her ongoing impeachment saga.
She had previously expressed her relief and joy when the Senate decided to investigate the charges against her in a plenary session, rather than through a smaller committee.
After learning she would have the opportunity to defend herself before all Senators, she tweeted “Hallelujah” on X.
The Senate had confirmed the impeachment of Hon. Mwangaza on Wednesday, following two failed attempts by the Meru County Assembly.
In the most recent vote, 40 out of 69 members of the County Assembly supported her removal from office.
Senators ultimately decided to oust her based on three charges for which she was found guilty.
Meanwhile, the court instructed the respondent to submit a response to the Application dated 21/08/2024 by the end of business on 28/08/2024.
The respondent was also ordered to file and serve written submissions by 11/09/2024.
The case will be mentioned on 17/09/2024 to confirm compliance and set a priority date for highlighting the submissions.
