Former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza on Tuesday, March 18 evening accused top politicians in the county of plotting, orchestrating, and financing her impeachment from office.
Speaking to the nation a day after her deputy, Muthuma M’Ethingia, was sworn in to take over as the county boss, Kawira said that her only mistake was being a woman leader in a county that was so patriarchal and not ready for woman leadership.
“If you want to know the planners, authors, orchestrators and financiers of my impeachment from office, just look at the politicians who were very happy when they attended the swearing in of my deputy yesterday,” Kawira said.
Kawira, however, refused to go down without a fight, insisting that she will explore all legal and constitutional avenues at her disposal to challenge the injustice meted out to her.
According to Kawira, Muthuma has been installed in the office to serve the interests of a select few, and not those of the people of Meru County.
“The people of Meru deserve leaders who will serve them with honesty and dedication. Not those who are beholden to the interests of the select few.
“I am exploring all the legal and constitution avenues to challenge this injustice. I also continue to engage with the people of Meru to ensure their voices are heard and their needs are met,” she said.
She added: “If anyone had doubts on who was behind my impeachment, I invite them to keenly review the swearing in ceremony of my deputy. The orchestrators, actors, planners, sponsors, financiers, script writers of my impeachment were overwhelmed by joy and could no longer hide behind their masks anymore. One after the other, they took credit of my downfall with each of them boldly stating the role they played. Some of them went an extra mile to thank the top office in this country for the support offered towards the course.”
Kawira’s dice was cast when the high court on Friday, March 14 upheld her impeachment at the Senate Assembly.
Justice Bahati Mwamuye upheld the Senate decision to kick her out of office, ruling that her petition did not meet the threshold required to quash the impeachment, consequently validating a gazette notice communicating her ouster from office.
