Kawira Mwangaza’s impeachment motion to be tabled next week

News

A section of Meru Members of County Assembly (MCAs) are set to table governor Kawira Mwangaza’s impeachment motion next week.

This will be Kawira Mwangaza’s second impeachment process. She was acquitted by the impeachment committee in the first instance.

Led by Majority Leader Evans Mawira, the UDA Party MCAs say they are in a process of drafting and tabling a fresh motion to impeach the governor.

The caucus insist they intend to bring on board other Meru MCAs from other political parties to support them in passing the impeachment motion.

According to them, they have given Governor Kawira enough time to address issues plaguing Meru County but things have not changed.

We will impeach Governor Kawira Mwangaza

“It is not our agenda to see chaos, to see drama or shenanigans in the county so we have decided to withdraw the support within and outside the assembly that we had given the governor,” Mawira says.

Mawira adds: “We have already appended our signatures from the 27 of us who form or comprise the Kenya Kwanza caucus in the county assembly in preparation for a fresh impeachment motion after the one that we had last year was thwarted in the senate.”

The MCAs say even after trying as much as possible to assist the governor by advising her, their advises have been landing on deaf ears.

Ward Development Fund

The MCAs also want to table a bill that will see the ward development funds become an Act in the Meru County Government.

This, they say, will prevent any governor from denying them a fund that will further bring development at the grassroot.

If the impeachment motion is tabled against the Meru governor, then this will be the second time.

On Saturday, September 23, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki banned all Governor Mwangaza’s “Okolea” meetings saying they are full of violence.

Recently, chaos erupted at Maua in Igembe South during the governor’s “Okolea” meeting, where property was destroyed and people injured after two opposing groups of youth engaged in fighting.
