A Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) collapsed and died at a school in Kandara, Murang’a County.
The incident was confirmed by Kandara deputy county commissioner Peter Maina, who reported that the student collapsed while sitting for exams at Gakui Secondary School on Tuesday November 12, 2024.
She was rushed to a hospital in Murang’a where she was pronounced dead about one hour after arrival at the medical facility.
“The girl was rushed to a nearby health center while unconscious but with a pulse. She was admitted and doctors tried their best to save her life but unfortunately, she did not make it,” said Maina.
He added that the death of the student led to tension at the school but teachers and police helped in restoring normalcy.
At the same time, Murang’a County Education Director, Anne Kiilu noted that police have launched investigations into the matter.
“This is a health issue where a student has succumbed to a condition that is yet to be ascertained,” she said.
The body was moved to General Kago mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Meanwhile, the family of the deceased, through spokesperson Martin Kamau stated that the girl was expecting to post good results in the KCSE exam.
“We accept the will of God, and we find it hard to believe that she is no more. Kindly, pray for us,” said Kamau.
