KDF chopper crash: Sergeant Cliphonce Omondi’s family appeal for burial funds

Sergeant Cliphonce Omondi who perished alongside General Francis Ogolla and nine other military officers in a chopper accident last week will be buried on 3rd May 2024.

According to Sergeant Omondi’s family spokesman Dominic Oyugi, the burial arrangements are underway, adding that as a family they have resolved to bring the body at their home in Ndiwo village within West Alego location on 2nd May 2024, then they will bury him the following day.

He stated that currently, they are just going on with arrangements that will see him given a decent and befitting send off.

Speaking to journalists at their home, Oyugi stated that government – through the military – has promised to cost share with them the burial expenses, noting that Sgt. Omondi’s burial will not be fully supported by the state given that he was still of a lower rank compared to General Ogolla whose burial was a state function.

He has therefore pleaded with friends and other well-wishers to come to their aid so that they may bridge the deficit that may arise in the budget.

Another relative William Nyong’o added that the burial ceremony will be held at the nearby Ndiwo Primary School owing to the huge population of mourners that they expect to attend the funeral.

Cliphonce Omondi’s mother Getrude Achieng’ and his sister in-law Beatrice Odipo stated that they have lost a humble, loving and generous family member who took care of so many relatives.

His other cousin Sylvester Okwiri said that they had high hopes in their son but death has cut him short, and therefore pleaded with the government to ensure that thorough investigations are done into the military chopper accident that claimed the lives of those ten officers.
