The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) women’s volleyball team delivered an emphatic 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-13) victory over Nairobi Prisons in the fourth leg of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Women’s National League at the Nyayo National Stadium outdoor court on Sunday.
The win capped off a successful weekend for KDF, who registered three victories over Young Spykers, Kenya Army, and Nairobi Prisons, with their only setback coming in a loss to former champions Kenya Prisons on Thursday.
Milika Akinyi Steals the Spotlight
While KDF displayed their collective strength, the spotlight belonged to 16-year-old opposite hitter Milika Akinyi. The St. Cecilia Aluor School student from Siaya County electrified the crowd with powerful spikes and fearless attacks, proving to be a game-changer in the match.
Akinyi’s exceptional performance marks her as a rising star to watch, adding youthful energy and skill to an already formidable KDF squad.
KDF’s Strong League Presence
Under the guidance of coach Jackline Baraza, a former Kenyan international middle blocker, KDF continues to solidify its reputation as a top contender in the league. With emerging talents like Akinyi stepping up, the team appears well-positioned for even greater success in the coming matches.
