KDF soldiers clash with police over KSh4k alcohol bill

Three men, suspected to be Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and National Police Service (NPS) officers were arrested on Sunday, April 28 for assaulting a bar owner in Kakamega County.

In a police report filed at Musoli Police Station, the three allegedly attacked Robinson Igonga, the manager of West Joe Bar and Restaurant, after being served with a bill amounting to KSh4,250.

“That he served three persons with alcoholic drinks totalling to KSh4,250. The persons refused to pay and while walking out of the bar they stole the reportee’s Tecno phone,” read part of the police statement.

The bar manager followed the suspects outside where a heated argument ensued and moments later the three turned on him with blows and kicks.

This attracted the attention of three NPS officers on patrol within Musoli Town centre.

“The officers responded and rescued the reportee who had sustained head and chest injuries.”

However, the suspects turned on the three officers namely; Sergeant Evans Etyang, Constable Fred Mochache and another constable Gladys Onsongo.

The drunk men were subdued and subsequently arrested. While at the station, they reportedly damaged the cell’s steel door as they demanded release.

Police officers could not obtain their names and were forced to contact their military counterparts and NPS to assist with identification.

The suspects were charged with assault against the bar manager, the police officers and malicious damage of property.
