Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers on Wednesday May 1, 2024 killed six suspected members of Al Shabaab terror group, including one foreign national in Kumba area, Lamu County.
Officials said the scene of the ambush was at Boni Forest where the terrorists were hiding as they plan attacks in the region.
The raid was staged following intelligence reports, revealing that the group was planning an attack in the area.
The operation resulted in the confiscation of significant logistical supplies, police said.
KDF soldiers were part of the multi-agency team that staged the raid.
“Today at 1300 hours, a multi-agency team led by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) launched a targeted operation against an active Al-Shabaab camp located in Kumba, approximately 10km west of Pandanguo.
“The operation successfully neutralized six members of Al-Shabaab, including a foreign national, and resulted in the confiscation of significant logistical supplies,” read part of the police report.
Police noted that some suspects managed to escape during the incident.
“The public is advised to remain vigilant as the operation may lead to increased activity from the group, particularly as the number of injured terrorists is reported to be high,” police reported.
Meanwhile, police urged members of the public to report any suspicious behavior or individuals seeking medical assistance in the area.
The multi-agency team has launched a major operation in areas affected by terror related attacks in Lamu and other parts of the country.
The border areas of Mandera, Wajir, Lamu and Garissa too have faced similar attacks which have affected development activities at large.
