Kelvin Kiptum’s coaches widow offered Ksh 5 M by kenyan govt

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has announced that the Kenyan Government will stand in Solidarity with the family of Gervais Hakizimana the late Rwandese national who was World marathon holder Kelvin Kiptum’s coach.

Speaking in Kigali,Rwanda while attending the funeral service of Coach Gervais Hakizimana,the Cabinet Secretary announced that the Kenyan government is ready to offer the family of the late coach and his widow June KSh5 million (RWF40m) in support following his death alongside marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum.

Family, friends, and members of the athletics fraternity lay to rest Gervais Hakizimana who died in a car crash alongside Kenya’s world marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum on February 11.

Meanwhile The late Marathon World Record Holder Kelvin Kiptum died from severe head trauma sustained during a car crash, this is according to the postmortem conducted by the Government’s chief Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor.

“The late Kelvin had severe head injuries. There were severe skull fractures which were mainly at the base of the skull and the spinal cord had intruded into the canal cavity because of that. Further to that there were some fractures on the ribs on both sides,” he stated.

Kiptum is set to be buried on Friday, in what a Kenyan athletics official stated would be a “state function” attended by President William Ruto.

The funeral was initially set to be held on Saturday, but was brought forward by a day due to President Ruto’s schedule.
