Kenya sevens head coach Kevin Wambua has named the thirteen man squad that is set to represent Shujaa in Dubai for the 2024/2025 HSBC world rugby series which will be held from 30th November to 1st December 2024.
The squad will be led by Samuel Asati and George Ooro who are set to co-captain the team.
Kelvin Wekesa , William Mwanji and Brian Mutua will be part of the squad whereas Olympians Chrisant Ojwang ,Nygel Amaitsa and speed star Patrick Odongo are also part of the team heading to Dubai.
Zetech rugby player Brayan Ondego is set to make his debut for Shujaa in the opening leg of the 2024/2025 HSBC world rugby series.
The squad will also be traveling to Cape Town immediately after Dubai for the second leg of the series (Cape Town 7s). The team is set to depart on Monday November 25.
Kenya 7s who return into the tournament having played in the challenger series last season after facing relegation have been drawn in pool A of the Dubai 7s together with Olympics champions France, South Africa and Australia.
2024 SVNS Series League Winners Argentina are in Pool B alongside Ireland, Uruguay and Great Britain whereas heavyweights Fiji, New Zealand, USA and Spain will compete in Pool D.
Kenya will aim for positive results in Pool A as the top two teams in each pool will progress to the quarter-finals, as well as the two best third-placed sides.
World Rugby has confirmed the destinations and dates for the HSBC SVNS 2025 Series where it will begin in Dubai on November 30 – December 1, 2024, then head to the DHL Stadium in Cape Town for the second round on December 7-8, 2024.
The third round will be played at Australia’s HBF Park from January 24-26, 2025 with Vancouver’s BC Place hosting the fourth round on February 21-23, 2025.
The iconic Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens will host the fifth round from March 28-30, 2025, Singapore’s National Stadium will host the sixth round on April 5-6, where the overall SVNS League Winners will be crowned.
