The Kenya National men’s rugby sevens team Shujaa are in Miramas, France as they prepare to take part in both the HSBC Sevens Series playoffs and the upcoming Paris Olympic games.
The playoffs are scheduled for May 31 to June 2 in Madrid while the Olympics are slated for July 26 to August 11.
The Miramas camp provide a crucial training ground as the Kenyan boys aim to solidify their position in the upcoming playoff qualifiers.
Shujaa qualified for the playoffs after dominating major challenger series’ this year.
Shujaa are on a campaign to get a coveted core team spot on the World Rugby Sevens Series circuit. Kenya was relegated from the HSBC World Rugby 7s Series last year and have consistently displayed hunger to get back.
Their fine run started during the Dubai 7s leg in January where they were crowned champions. They would then settle for bronze in Montevideo before finishing fifth in Germany.
The camp is a project of the National Olympics Committee of Kenya in partnership with the City of Miramas.
It cost Ksh. 26 million to offer elite training grounds for Team Kenya ahead of Paris 2024.
