The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed, alongside Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Dr. Patrice Motsepe and outgoing Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen, wrapped up a series of pivotal activities today as part of the preparations for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Stadium Inspections: Progress on Key Facilities
The day commenced with an extensive tour of four major stadiums designated for CHAN 2024: Kasarani, Nyayo, Ulinzi Sports Complex, and Police Sacco Stadium. The delegation evaluated ongoing infrastructure upgrades critical to the tournament’s success.
CAF President Dr. Motsepe lauded the progress made since his last visit.
“I am impressed with the work going on. Things are very different and progressing well. The support from the government, led by President William Ruto and Minister Kipchumba Murkomen, is commendable. I am confident Kenya, alongside Uganda and Tanzania, will host the best CHAN in the history of the tournament,” he said.
State House Commitment to CHAN Success
The inspection tour concluded with a strategic meeting at State House, where H.E. President Dr. William Ruto reaffirmed the government’s unwavering support for CHAN 2024. The discussions revolved around infrastructure readiness, project timelines, and Kenya’s preparations to welcome teams and fans from across Africa.
“Kenya is pulling all the stops to be ready to host the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in February 2025. Renovations at Moi Sports Centre Kasarani and Nyayo Stadium are progressing as planned. Ulinzi Sports Complex, Police Sacco Stadium in Nairobi, and Kirigiti Stadium in Kiambu, which will serve as training grounds, are also undergoing upgrades and will be ready ahead of the championships,” stated President Ruto.

FKF President Hussein Mohammed expressed appreciation for the collaborative efforts between the government and CAF.
“We sincerely thank the Government, led by President William Ruto, for their unwavering commitment, and extend our gratitude to CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe for their trust. Kenya is determined to deliver a successful tournament,” he said.
Outgoing Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the government’s dedication.
“CAF has set strict timelines, and we are on track to meet them. The government is fully committed to ensuring a seamless and successful tournament,” remarked Murkomen.

FKF President Hussein Mohammed and other officials bid farewell to Dr. Motsepe and his team at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, as the CAF President heads to Uganda to conclude his East African tour.
