Kenya Air Force officer dies in Siaya head-on motorcycle crash

A Kenya Air Force officer died in a road accident around Nyamonye area along Bondo-Usenge road in Siaya County on April 22, 2024.

The officer identified as Paytone Mitch Opiyo died alongside a motorcyclist Richard Omondi after a head-on collision involving two motorbikes.

Confirming the incident, Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo, said the Air Force officer was riding a motorcycle while carrying his brother Felix Opiyo and was heading towards Bondo from Usenge when he collided head-on with an oncoming motorbike.

“Paytone Mitch Opiyo of Kenya Air Force was riding motorcycle registration number KMFC 639X  boxer from Usenge heading to Bondo direction carrying one pillion passenger namely Felix Opiyo and on reaching at Nyamonye area collided head on with another motorcycle of registration number KMEA 028U boxer ridden by Richard Omondi Ochieng aged 18 years that was coming from the opposite direction carrying one Walter Aloo aged 17yrs.  

“As a result of the accident both riders died on the spot, the pillion passengers sustained multiple leg fractures,” read part of the police report. 

Kimaiyo explained that Police officers from Bondo police station went to the scene of the accident and removed two bodies to Bondo Sub County hospital mortuary pending autopsy.

Meanwhile, Felix Opiyo and Walter Aloo were rushed to Siaya County Referral hospital in critical condition. 

Additionally, both badly damaged motorcycles were taken to Nyamonye police post yard awaiting inspection.
