” We just had our first national competition last Saturday in Nairobi that had 100 wrestlers from seven Counties countrywide. We had wrestlers as young as as eight year olds coming out to compete, something that shows that the porpularity of wrestling is growing,” said SG Walucho adding that the Association is targeting 15 year olds that will be ready for the Dakar games that will only have Cadets( 16 -17 years).

KAWA also revealed that United World Wrestling ( UWW) will send youth wrestling coaches and experts for youth training camps in April, August and December this year under a youth development program that is fully funded by the wrestling global governing body to prepare Kenyan youngsters for qualifiers that will start in November this year.

KAWA’s main championships will be the second edition of the East Africa Amature Wrestling Championships already slated for August this year in Nairobi, but before that the association has organized a local tournament in Mombasa that will be held in the month of March, then head to Naivasha at the end of the very month before finishing the tour in Transnzoia County for the April wrestling games.
