Kenya Association of Manufacturers CEO Anthony Mwangi steps down

Anthony Mwangi, the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) Chief Executive Officer, has stepped down.

The KAM Board of Directors Chairperson Jane Karuku made the announcement of Mwangi’s departure on Wednesday, August 14.

“The Association extends its sincere gratitude to Mr. Mwangi for his dedicated service and significant contributions to the Association and the manufacturing sector during his tenure,” Karuku says in a statement seen by TV47 Digital.

Mwangi was appointed as KAM CEO effective September 15, 2022, serving for almost two years.

Since joining KAM as the CEO, the Board says, Mwangi has been instrumental in driving the Association’s advocacy initiatives towards realizing the Manufacturing 20by30 strategy.

“Under his leadership, the Association has continued to position itself as a thought leader in manufacturing,” Karuku’s statement continues.

Mwangi brought on board over 20 years of work experience and a wealth of expertise in public policy, government relations, stakeholder engagement, communications and business development cutting across the Transportation, ICT, Aviation, and Oil and Gas industries.

He has previously worked at Bolt, Tullow Oil, IBM and Kenya Airways in various capacities. Mr Mwangi has a Masters’ Degree in Public Policy and Management from Strathmore Business School, a Bachelor’s degree from University of Nairobi and a Certificate of Public Policy from New York University (NYU).

Acting CEO

Consequently, Tobias Alando — the current Chief Operating Officer — will assume the role of CEO in an acting capacity, while the Board of Directors initiate the process of recruiting a new CEO.

“We are confident that under Mr. Alando’s interim leadership, KAM will continue to build on the strong foundation laid by Mr. Mwangi. During this period of transition, we ask for the continued support of all our members, partners, and stakeholders as we work towards a seamless leadership change.”

The board has assured stakeholders that KAM remains committed to its strategic objectives, and its members on delivering its purpose of creating prosperity for the nation through sustainable industrialisation.

Established in 1959, KAM is a representative of manufacturing and value-add industries in Kenya.
