Kenya Cup: Kabras defeat Impala to start the season on a high

The Kenya cup 2024/2025 season was off to a flying start on Saturday November 23, 2024 evening with thrilling action being witnessed in all the six matches played.

Defending champions Kabras RFC commenced their 2024/2025 campaign with a 36-06 victory over Impala RFC at the ASK Kakamega Showground.

Eric Cantona came in with the opening try for Kabras which he successfully converted for a 7-0 lead.

Impala’s Patrick Muli then scored a penalty kick to earn the visiting side their first points of the game bringing the scores to 07-03.

Kabras took a 14-03 lead moments later through Gabriel Adera who scored a try which was successfully converted by Eric Cantona.

Impala managed to score another penalty but this was not enough as Kabras responded quickly with two tries from Collins Indeche and Hillary Salano making matters 26-06 at halftime in favour of Kabras.

Eric Cantona successfully converted Gabriel Adera’s second try for a 33-06 lead but the game was halted following heavy downpour which forced the referees to end the match with almost 19 minutes to play thus earning Kabras a 36-06 home victory.

KCB RFC also started the season strong by thrashing newly promoted South Coast Pirates 88-05 who were making their debut in the Kenya Cup, the match was played at the KCB Sports club in Ruaraka. 

At Kenyatta University grounds Blak Blad RFC defeated Nakuru RFC 27-05 while Menengai Oilers secured a 76-13 win over Kisumu RFC.

Varsity side Strathmore Leos were handed a 22-16 defeat by Nondescripts whereas Kenya Harlequin managed a 55-22 victory over Mwamba RFC at the RFUEA grounds.

The KRU Championship entered its gameweek two this weekend where at the JKUAT main campus grounds JKUAT Cougars defeated TUM Marines 35-05 in a varsity derby.

Mombasa RFC were handed a 28-00 walkover after their opponents western Bulls failed to show up while daystar falcons thrashed UoE Trojans 67-06 in a match played at the UoE Pavilion grounds.

MMUST RFC recorded their second win of the season following a 71-17 victory against USIU-A martials.

Homeboyz RFC managed to bag their first win of the season after seeing off Mean Machine 31-09 whereas at the Zetech University, Mang’u campus grounds Catholic Monks handed Zetech Oaks a 28-21 defeat.
