As the 2024/2025 Kenya Cup regular season approaches its finale, Match Day Nine is set to deliver an exciting array of fixtures, with only three rounds remaining to establish playoff hopefuls and teams fighting to avoid relegation. The matches are scheduled for Saturday, February 22nd, across various venues nationwide.
The weekend’s headline clash pits second-placed KCB Rugby, boasting 40 points and an impressive point differential of +358, against third-placed Menengai Oilers, who also have 40 points but a slightly lower differential of +317. Both teams remain undefeated after eight rounds, making this encounter at the KCB Sports Club pivotal in the race for a home semi-final berth.
In another key matchup, league leaders Kabras Sugar, the only other unbeaten team with 40 points and a commanding +440 point differential, will host fourth-placed Nondescripts RFC, who sit at 28 points with a narrow +3 point differential. Nondies have had a solid season, but defeating Kabras in Kakamega will be a significant challenge.
In Diani, fifth-placed Kenya Harlequin, with 22 points and a +32 point differential, will visit South Coast Pirates, currently in 11th place with just 5 points and a troubling -212 point differential. With the Pirates entrenched in the relegation zone, they will be battling for survival while Quins seek to strengthen their playoff position.
Another vital mid-table encounter sees seventh-placed Kisumu RFC, holding 12 points but struggling with a -271 point differential, welcoming sixth-placed KU Blak Blad, who have accrued 16 points and a -42 point differential. With only a few points separating them from teams below, both sides will be eager for a victory to avoid being dragged into the relegation fight.
Meanwhile, Strathmore Leos, positioned ninth with 10 points and a -96 point differential, will face off against bottom-placed Nakuru RFC, who have managed only 5 points and a -161 point differential. This clash at Madaraka grounds carries significant relegation implications as Nakuru attempts to escape last place while Strathmore looks to create some distance from the drop zone.
At Impala Grounds, eighth-placed Impala RFC, with 11 points and a -137 point differential, will take on tenth-placed Mwamba RFC, who are just behind them with 9 points and a -238 point differential. Both teams have faced difficulties this season, and a loss here could deepen the relegation woes for the defeated side.
