Matchday eight of the Kenya Cup delivered thrilling encounters, with defending champions Kabras Sugar and KCB, along with Menengai Oilers and KU Blak Blad, all securing victories.
Nakuru RFC also celebrated their first win of the season in matches staged across different venues countrywide on Saturday 16th February 2025.
In a gripping match at Nakuru Athletics Club, Nakuru RFC struck first through Edwins Makori, but the conversion attempt went wide.
Kisumu quickly responded with a try from Joseph Wanjala, though they also missed the conversion, leveling the score at 5-5.
Nakuru regained the lead when Fredrick Odongo powered over the try line, with Javan Otieno adding the extras to put them ahead.
However, Kisumu fought back after being awarded a penalty for a high tackle in Nakuru’s half. Wanjala capitalized with his second try, narrowing the gap to 12-10 after another missed conversion.
Felix Okoth extended Nakuru’s lead with two tries, pushing the score to 22-10. In the second half, Oscar Ouma, set up by Odongo, crossed over to make it 27-10. Kisumu refused to back down, with Omondi scoring to cut the deficit to 27-15. Duncan Shigali then showcased his blistering pace to add another try, securing Kisumu a losing bonus point. Valentine Odoyo’s successful conversion brought the score to 27-22.
However, Nakuru had the final say, sealing their victory with a late try to clinch a 32-22 win.
In other matches, KCB Rugby continued their impressive run with a commanding 53-8 victory over Nondescripts. Kabras Sugar maintained their unbeaten streak with a 43-22 triumph over Kenya Harlequin FC.
KU Blak Blad delivered the biggest win of the round by dismantling South Coast Pirates 50-3, while Menengai Oilers showcased their attacking prowess with a resounding 56-3 win over Impala RFC.
Mwamba RFC secured a crucial 20-10 victory over Strathmore Leos, solidifying their mid-table position.
