Kenya Cup week 10: Kabras Edge Oilers, KCB dominate, Nakuru shock Mwamba

Kabras RFC narrowly defeated Menengai Oilers 20-14 in a hard-fought encounter at Nakuru ASK Grounds on Saturday, March 1, 2025. The defending champions had to work hard to beat a tough Oilers team in a game that showed how intense the Kenya Cup can be.

The game started with Menengai Oilers scoring first when Samuel Mwaura got a try, putting them ahead 5-0. Timothy Omela then kicked a penalty to increase their lead to 8-0. Kabras RFC responded with a penalty kick from Ntabeni Dukisa, making the score 8-3.

Kabras took the lead when Brian Tanga quickly tapped a penalty and scored a try, with Dukisa converting it to make it 10-8. However, Omela hit another penalty for the Oilers, regaining the lead at 11-10. He followed that with another penalty kick, bringing their score to 14-10. Just before halftime, Kabras scored another penalty, ending the first half with Menengai Oilers leading 14-13.

The second half was very competitive, with the Oilers successfully blocking most of Kabras’ attacks. In the end, Dukisa scored a crucial try for Kabras, giving them a 20-14 lead.

In another fixture played in Nakuru, the hosts Nakuru RFC claimed a vital 32-27 victory over Mwamba RFC. The Wanyore showed great determination, fending off a surge from Mwamba to bag crucial points in their fight for a strong finish in the regular season.

Meanwhile, KCB Rugby delivered a commanding performance, thrashing Impala RFC 69-09 at the den in Ruaraka. Nondescripts secured a crucial 50-29 win over South Coast Pirates in an entertaining high-scoring affair.

Kenya Harlequin continued their resurgence with a 36-22 victory over Kisumu RFC. KU Blak Blad edged Strathmore Leos 39-31 in a thrilling varsity derby, showcasing both teams’ attacking abilities but ultimately seeing Blak Blad’s composure lead them to victory.

The Kenya Rugby Championship season came to an exciting conclusion with intense battles across the board. TUM Marines clinched a 32-22 victory over Mombasa SC in a thrilling coastal derby, while JKUAT Cougars dominated UoE Trojans 24-5 with a solid display.
