Kenya Cup Week 10: Playoff, Relegation, and title battles take center Stage

The Kenya Cup enters its penultimate round this weekend, with everything on the line—relegation battles, semifinal spots, and the race for the top. Matchday 10 promises intense clashes across the country, particularly in Nakuru, where two critical encounters could shape the season’s outcome.

At the top of the table, KCB Rugby, in first place with 45 points, and Kabras Sugar, in second place with 44, remain locked in a tight battle for the regular-season title, with Menengai Oilers, sitting third with 41 points, close behind. KCB, boasting an impressive points difference of +360, will be looking to extend their lead as they host Impala RFC, who are seventh with 15 points, at the Den.

Meanwhile, Kabras Sugar, with a league-high points difference of +444, faces a crucial clash against Menengai Oilers at the ASK Showground. A win for the Oilers could shake up the top two and boost their chances of securing a home semifinal, while Kabras will be looking to reclaim the top spot if KCB slips.

The race for the playoffs is equally intense, with Nondescript RFC, in fourth place with 29 points, looking to cement their place in the top six as they take on South Coast Pirates, who are bottom of the table in 12th position with just eight points. Kenya Harlequin, sitting fifth with 27 points, is also fighting to secure their spot and will need a strong performance against Kisumu RFC, who are ninth with 12 points and still battling to stay clear of the relegation zone.

Blak Blad welcome Strathmore in another crucial fixture. Blak Blad, holding onto sixth place with 21 points, is under pressure to maintain its position, with Strathmore Leos, in eighth place with 12 points, still in the hunt and desperate for a win to ensure their safety.

The biggest relegation showdown of the weekend takes place at Nakuru Athletics Club, where Nakuru RFC, in 11th place with nine points, hosts Mwamba RFC, who are 10th with ten points. With both teams sitting in the danger zone, this is a must-win fixture that could determine who drops to the Championship next season. A loss for Nakuru would leave them on the brink, while Mwamba will be equally desperate to pull away from the bottom two.
