Harambee Stars claimed a 2-1 win over Namibia in their second 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier match on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at Orlando Stadium, South Africa. The victory propelled Kenya to the top of Group J, securing their position as strong contenders in the ongoing qualifiers.
The first half was marked by a tactical and defensive showdown between both sides, resulting in a goalless half as neither team managed to find the back of the net.
Kenya broke the deadlock in the 57th minute when John Avire expertly converted a free-kick, curling the ball past the Namibian defense and goalkeeper, giving Harambee Stars a crucial lead. The momentum continued to swing in Kenya’s favor when, in the 76th minute, Eric Ouma led a rapid counter-attack, providing a perfect assist to Duke Abuya, who calmly slotted home the second goal, putting Kenya in a commanding position.
Namibia fought back and managed to score a consolation goal in the 94th minute through Deon Hotto. However, it was too late to alter the outcome, as Harambee Stars held firm to secure a 2-1 victory.
With this win, Kenya now tops Group J with 4 points. The team will next face Cameroon in their home-and-away fixtures in October as they continue their quest for a spot in the 2025 AFCON tournament.
