Kenya U-17 team has been drawn in Pool B of the 2025 AFCON U-17 CECAFA Qualifiers following a draw conducted by Jean Namayega Sseninde, the CECAFA Women’s Football Development Manager on Thursday November 2024.
Hosts Uganda are in Pool A alongside Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Burundi
Kenya U-17 boys have been drawn in pool B and are set to compete against 2022 champions Somalia, South Sudan and Sudan.
The Kenya U-17 team will be led Salim Babu who will be supported by assistant coach Anthony Akhulia as they aim to secure qualification for the continental tournament having helped Kenya’s U-20 team qualify for the 2025 AFCON U-20 tournament.
According to Yusuf Mossi, the CECAFA Competitions Director all teams will have their players undergo the mandatory Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) tests to determine if they are eligible to play in the tournament.
The best two teams will qualify to represent the CECAFA Zone at the CAF U-17 AFCON tournament to take place in 2025.
The competition will bring together eight teams and will take place at the Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo and St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende in Uganda between December 14-27th, 2024.
In the last Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) U-17 CECAFA qualifiers held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 2022, Somalia beat South Sudan 3-1 in the final.
Group A: Uganda, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Burundi
Group B: Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Kenya
