National Assembly Minority leader James Opiyo Wandayi has warned Kenya Kwanza government that they shall not be allowed to reconstitute IEBC through a selection panel.
Wandayi says that they are aware that some people are currently pushing for the reconstitution of IEBC through the selections panel but warned that any attempts to reconstitute the electoral commission outside the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) framework shall be rejected in totality.
While stating the selection panel is in itself moribund, Wandayi warned that they shall not recognize the electoral commission formed through this process.
Wandayi who spoke at Ugunja Technical and Vocational College further warned that if the government goes on to reconstitute IEBC outside the NADCO framework, that will be the end of the NADCO together with all its recommendations.
He hinted at a possible return of street protests in the country if the government does not heed to this demand.
Wandayi who is the head of the Azimio Parliamentary Group has at the same time warned the IEBC Secretariat to stop wasting its time purporting to seek advisory opinion on whether they can still conduct elections and by-elections or not.
Orengo’s take
His sentiments were separately echoed by Siaya governor James Orengo who wants the NADCO report presented to the National Assembly for approval and implementation in the next one or two weeks.
The governor says that if the report is not taken to parliament next week then it will be clear that the Kenya Kwanza team did not take the talks seriously.
