Kenya Met lists Nairobi among regions to experience heavy rains for next 7 days

Kenya meteorologists have warned Kenyans to brace for heavy rains for the next seven days.

The regions set to experience heavy rains include; the central highlands which encompasses Nairobi County, and Western Kenya, Northwestern Kenya, counties within the Rift Valley, the Coast regions, and the counties located in the North-Eastern regions.

The meteorological department stated that the above regions will experience occasional heavy rains from 21 to 27 May 2024.

“The regions may see occasional rainfall and isolated heavy rainfall. Stay prepared and Safe!” the meteorological department warned Kenyans.

The government agency also urged Kenyans to be ready for very high daytime temperatures and extreme cold nights for the next one week.

According to the department, daytime temperatures above 30°C are expected in most parts of the Coast, North-Eastern, and North-Western Kenya.

Night-time temperatures are expected to drop below 10°C in some parts of the Central Highlands including Nairobi County.

The announcement by Kenya Met comes amidst heavy rains currently being witnessed in several parts of Kenya.

According to the weather predictions, Kenyans are warned about potential floods and possible landslides.

The weatherperson’s announcement about strong winds and cyclone Laly along the Kenyan coast is another concern.

According to the May 21 advisory from Kenya Met, they warned about south-easterly winds blowing at speeds of 10-30 knots along the coastal region.

They have also mentioned that the wave heights could range from 1.5 to 3.6 meters.

“Moderate to strong sea conditions. Small boats and crafts should avoid deep-sea areas,” Kenya Met cautioned.
